Schedule released for 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship




Australia, Costa Rica, Scotland and Serbia will kick off the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.

The four teams – Australia will face Costa Rica in Orange Group action while Scotland and Serbia battle in Green Group play – will take to the floor on Thursday, September 19, the first day of lacrosse action at Langley Events Centre, at 10:30 a.m.

The 72-game schedule was released today (August 1) with 20 countries battling over 10 days to determine the world champion. The games will be played in the Arena Bowl and Fieldhouse at Langley Events Centre.

Defending champion Canada – winner of the gold medal at all four previous World Indoor Lacrosse Championship events – faces the United States in their opening game on the first night at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams are in the Blue Group along with Iroquois Nationals, Israel and England. The five are ranked one through five in the world rankings.

The Yellow Group features Ireland (No. 6), Serbia (No. 11), Switzerland (No. 12), Netherlands (No. 17) and Hong Kong (No. 18) while the Green Group has Czech Republic (No. 7), Germany (No. 10), Slovakia (No. 13), Scotland (No. 16) and Mexico (No. 19).

The Orange Group has Australia (No. 8), Finland (No. 9), Sweden (No. 14), Austria (No. 15) and Costa Rica (No. 20).

Each team plays four round-robin games over the course of the first five days of the Championship (September 19 to 23) with games set for 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily.

The winners of the Yellow, Green and Orange pools join the five Blue Pool teams in the Championship Bracket. The remaining dozen teams will participate in the Placement Bracket to determine spots nine to 20.

The top two teams in the Blue Pool advance directly to the semifinals, which are set for Thursday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. respectively.

The bronze medal match is set for Saturday, September 28 at 5:00 p.m. with the Championship game slated to follow at 8:00 p.m.
